Out North
In March of 2002 a young woman in her twenties was assaulted for her perceived sexual preference. The words "dyke" and "r.i.p." we carved into her like she was an artists canvas, displaying a message to all to beware of hatred and bigotry. This event didn't take place in some small southern farming community where hatred and the KKK run rampant. The event didn't happen in the middle of the mid-west bible belt. It happened in the middle of Downtown Denver. The paragraph above is just one event in several thousand that will take place this year in our country. The only difference? This one made the 6 o'clock news. There are many stories, just as horrifying to hear, that are never told. Shouts of obscenities here, a racist leaflet there, all happening every day in the U.S. A. Will you be the next target?
